Sembra la storia di un film quella di Milo Silvestro, frontman del gruppo Fear Factory, band ai vertici della scena musicale metal. Figlio d’arte, studi al conservatorio e poi il salto oltreoceano
Sembra la sceneggiatura di un film dal lieto fine quella di Milo Silvestro che a 37 anni è il cantante più noto nella scena mondiale del rock metal. Nato e cresciuto a Ostia da genitori musicisti, Milo da tre anni è il frontman e vocalist del gruppo Fear Factory, band che nei suoi concerti fa sold out in stadi da 80mila spettatori.
Tra un tour e l’altro, mentre si avvia ad un autunno caldo da dedicare alla preparazione del suo primo disco con i Fear Factory, Milo Silvestro trascorre le sue vacanze tra Ostia e Acilia. E’ qui che è nato e cresciuto fino al salto oltreoceano avvenuto nel 2021. Una questione di dna (è figlio del bluesman e compositore Remo Silvestro e della vocalist Giovanna Bosco), di tanta passione, di studio (in conservatorio si è applicato sulle percussioni e sulla chitarra) e di un pizzico di fortuna quella che caratterizza la storia di Milo, nonostante la sua giovane età.
“La mia storia è del tutto surreale – racconta – perché praticamente il Fear Factory è stato da sempre uno dei miei gruppi preferiti, se non il mio preferito in questo genere di musica, il metal. Praticamente questa avventura è nata nel 2020 poco prima della pandemia anzi in realtà era già cominciata con il primo lockdown. Avevo pubblicato delle mie cover su youtube di Fear Factory dove cantavo alcuni pezzi loro e il chitarrista del gruppo, Dino Cazares, li ha notati. Così mi ha contattato dicendomi ‘mi hai colpito, sono rimasto impressionato dalla tua performance’. Ovviamente per me questa sua attenzione era già di per sé una cosa straordinaria, ma poi quando ho scoperto il motivo per cui mi ho contattato ovviamente la cosa è diventata ancora più eclatante e surreale: di lì a poco loro avrebbero concluso una in causa legale con gli ex membri e praticamente il loro ex cantante Burton Seabell avrebbe lasciato la band di lì a poco”.
Così a settembre 2020 si aperta un’autostrada da Ostia a Los Angeles, sede della band. “Affrontata l’audizione a Los Angeles – dice Milo Silvestro – abbiamo iniziato soltanto l’anno scorso e a febbraio 2023 è stato il primo tour dove sono stato appunto annunciato come ‘questo nuovo cantante italiano’. Da là abbiamo fatto diversi tour in America, abbiamo fatto un tour in Sud America, in Australia sud-est asiatico, Europa e quindi continuiamo, come dire, a ritmo serrato. Sembra di vivere un sogno”.
Milo Silvestro (pronunciato dal palco è diventato Mailo), nonostante l’enorme successo, con schiere di fans che gli chiedono selfie e autografi, è rimasto un ragazzo semplice. Sul terrazzo della casa di Acilia coltiva fiori e piante delicate, che il papà cura amorevolmente per lui, ha la passione per i rettili (con due lucertolone asiatiche nel rettilario), e quando è in zona ama intrattenersi con i suoi amici di sempre. Fuori dal gruppo continua a creare composizioni musicali: ha appena realizzato la sigla di un cartone animato destinato a una piattaforma streaming internazionale. Insomma, non si è montato la testa.
“Il palco è una prova dura da affrontare ogni volta – sottolinea Milo – L’emozione c’è sempre e guai se non ci fosse: mio padre mi ha sempre detto quando sali sul palco non è più emozione ma proprio paura, una sana paura. Montarsi da testa secondo me è una prerogativa di chi già ce l’ha anche prima del successo quindi penso, presumo con tutta umiltà di essere sempre stato una persona abbastanza con i piedi per terra e anche molto autocritica. Nonostante sia diventato il vocalist di questa band importantissima, di peso mondiale nel metal, mi sento ancora un ragazzetto del litorale, di Ostia o di Acilia. Insomma, mi sento ancora quello di prima”.
Infine un annuncio per amici e fans italiani: gli agenti del gruppo stanno trattando per una data da tenersi a Roma nel prossimo anno. Chissà che nell’estate 2025 i Fear Factory non si esibiscano nella Capitale, magari al Teatro Romano di Ostia!

It seems like the script of a movie with a happy ending that of Milo Silvestro who at 37 years old is the most famous singer on the world rock metal scene. Born and raised in Ostia by musician parents, Milo has been the frontman of the group Fear Factory for three years, a band that fills stadiums with 80 thousand spectators in its concerts.
Between one tour and another, while he is heading towards a hot autumn to dedicate to the preparation of his first album with Fear Factory, Milo Silvestro spends his holidays between Ostia and Acilia. It is here that he was born and raised until the leap overseas in 2021. A question of DNA (he is the son of the bluesman and composer Remo Silvestro and the vocalist Giovanna Bosco), of a lot of passion, of study (at the conservatory he applied himself to percussion and guitar) and of a pinch of luck that characterizes the story of Milo, despite his young age.
“My story is completely surreal – he says – because Fear Factory has always been one of my favorite groups, if not my favorite in this genre of music, metal. Basically this adventure began in 2020 shortly before the pandemic, in fact it had already begun with the first lockdown. I had published some of my covers on Fear Factory’s YouTube where I sang some of their songs and the group’s guitarist, Dino Cazares, noticed them. So he contacted me saying ‘you struck me, I was impressed by your performance’. Obviously for me his attention was already an extraordinary thing in itself, but then when I discovered the reason why I contacted me obviously the thing became even more sensational and surreal: shortly thereafter they would have concluded a lawsuit with the former members and practically their former singer Burton Seabell would have left the band shortly thereafter”.
So in September 2020 a highway opened from Ostia to Los Angeles, home of the band. “I auditioned in Los Angeles – we only started last year and in February 2023 it was the first tour where I was announced as ‘this new Italian singer’. From there we did several tours in America, we did a tour in South America, Australia, Southeast Asia, Europe and so we continue, so to speak, at a fast pace. It feels like living a dream”.
Milo Silvestro (pronounced on stage he became Mailo), despite his enormous success, with crowds of fans asking him for selfies and autographs, has remained a simple boy. On the terrace of Acilia’s house he grows flowers and delicate plants, which his father lovingly takes care of for him, he has a passion for reptiles (with two Asian lizards in the reptile house), and when he is in the area he loves to hang out with his lifelong friends. Outside the group he continues to create musical compositions: he has just created the theme song for a cartoon intended for an international streaming platform. In short, he hasn’t let it go to his head.
“The stage is a tough test to face every time – Milo emphasizes – The emotion is always there and woe betide if it wasn’t there: my father always told me when you go on stage it’s no longer emotion but fear, a healthy fear. In my opinion, getting on top of things is a prerogative of those who already have it even before success, so I think, I presume with all humility that I’ve always been a person with both feet on the ground and also very self-critical. Even though I’ve become the vocalist of this very important band, of world importance in metal, I still feel like a kid from the coast, from Ostia or Acilia. In short, I still feel like the same guy I was before”. Finally, an announcement for Italian friends and fans: the band’s agents are negotiating a date to be held in Rome next year. Who knows, maybe in the summer of 2025 Fear Factory will perform in the Capital, maybe at the Teatro Romano in Ostia!
